Nestled within the hill tops of Nagarjun municipality, Gumba Retreat was designed to be a sanctuary for Tibetan Buddhist practice, dedicated to wellness and serenity. The site is in a hillock on the outskirts of the Kathmandu ring road, with panoramic views of the city and mountains.
Designed to offer a secluded haven for individuals and groups alike, this retreat creates a tranquil environment conducive to personal growth, relaxation, reflection, and rejuvenation. Its intent is to intertwine everyday activities with singular moments that are typically reserved for spiritual rituals, thus heightening and sanctifying the act of living. The retreat's design draws inspiration from the ancient Gumba (monastery) of Tibet, with its intricate wood carvings, prayer wheels, and vibrant frescoes that reflect the deep spiritual heritage of Tibetan Buddhism.
The Gumba retreat features sacred spaces designed for meditation, prayer, and reflection. The accommodation provides ten bedrooms in national sections and six bedrooms in international section along with two deluxe rooms, yoga rooms, a prayer hall, dining hall and teacher’s room. The site is in levels, and the challenge was considered and designed in levels, which consists of an entrance foyer in the lower level & other residing spaces in upper levels.
