Substructure completes in Kalyon House Balwatar

The major complicated works of any building: basement, completes in Balwatar Kalyon house. Major challenge of the basement was the pilling protection against one of the major roads of the city. Since the road was one of the special road since it connected the presidential palace, it should not obstruct at any cost. Thus the project inflicted the use of steel sheet piling upto the depth of the basement and with the steel piles reaching upto 16ft below the ground level.

Since the soil bearing capacity we comparatively low, mat foundation was suggested for the structure. During the soil test it was found that the soil contained fair amount of sandy soil which speculated to suggest pressure release perforated pipe from the ground below the raft. Consulting the one of the pioneers of geo technical engineer , Mr.Rajendra Prasad Kayastha, it was concluded without the pressure release pipe. But fair depth of raft was suggested for the building.

Basement Construction was a most challenging part of the process. Since we had very few spaces to store the construction material, contractor managed to do within the limitation of the space by managing the time frame of raft laying. The raft foundation was laid in two phase instead of one at time. There was no manual raft laying during mat foundation instead RMC was used for the process. This saved the issue for the space limitation.
